What a real tournament schedule has to respect
A tournament schedule is a constraint problem wearing a spreadsheet costume. No team can be in two places at once. Rest gaps have to be humane — nobody should play three matches back-to-back while another team naps for two hours. Courts should stay busy, because idle courts are the most expensive thing at your venue. And in multi-stage events, the knockout can’t start until the results it depends on exist.
Miss any one of those and the day unravels in the group chat. This is why hand-written schedules survive first contact with exactly zero dropped-out teams.
How long will your tournament take?
The back-of-napkin formula: time slots = matches ÷ courts (rounded up), duration = slots × match length. It’s the fastest way to sanity-check whether your format fits your venue booking before you commit to it.
The real number is always a little higher, because round boundaries add slack — a round cannot start until the one before it has finished on every court. That is the arithmetic the schedule engine does for you, alongside the round robin or bracket structure itself.

How does the schedule avoid clashes?
It schedules a round at a time. A round already has each team in at most one match, so laying that round across your courts keeps every team in one place at once, and the next round starts after it. The same engine scheduled 755 matches across a 406-team event.
