Tournament seeding generator that sets the bracket order for you

Rank your teams, paste them best first, and see who plays whom in round one. Byes go to the top seeds, and the top two cannot meet before the final. Or deal the same list into balanced groups.

In brief

What is a tournament seeding generator?

A tournament seeding generator puts a ranked list of teams into a bracket so the strongest teams meet as late as possible. The Tournamyx seeding generator takes up to 64 teams, best first, and gives you the round one pairings, the byes, and the same list dealt into groups.

Every generator on Tournamyx is free and needs no account. Running the same event live, with scores, standings and a public link, happens at scores.tournamyx.com, free for up to 8 players.

How it works

Seed a tournament in three steps.

  1. 1~1 min

    Paste your teams, best first

One team per line. Line one is seed 1, line two is seed 2. Up to 64 teams. No ranking yet? Press Random seeds and the order is shuffled for you.

  2. 2~2 sec

    Pick a bracket or groups

Bracket shows round one top to bottom with a seed number beside every name. Groups deals the list across 2 to 8 groups and shows the seed total of each one.

  3. 3done

    Copy it out

The copy button gives you plain text for a group chat or a sheet. To score it live and share one link, run the same list on Tournamyx Scores.

Field guide

What the bracket view shows you

Each match in round one is a card with a seed number beside every name, listed from the top of the bracket to the bottom. A team with a bye shows as “Bye, moves straight on”, and the line above the cards says how many byes there are and which seeds they belong to.

Under the cards, a short list shows the seed numbers meeting in each round if the better seed wins every game. It is a way to check the draw before you post it, not a forecast. If a pairing there looks wrong to you, the order you typed is usually the reason.

The rules behind the order, including the seed X v seed (N + 1 − X) pairing, where byes go and how to keep the strongest teams apart, are set out in the guide to seeding a tournament bracket. This page applies them to your list.

What the groups view shows you

Switch to Groups and pick 2 to 8 groups. The list is dealt out and back across the groups, so group A does not collect every top seed. Each group card shows its seed total, which is the quickest way to see whether the groups are balanced.

If the field does not divide evenly, some groups hold one team fewer and the header says so. The page will not offer more groups than half your field, so no group is left with a single team and nothing to play.

Once the groups look right, the group stage and knockout generator builds the fixtures and the knockout that follows from them.

No ranking yet? What to do first

This page needs an order to work from. If you do not have one, Random seeds shuffles the list, which is a fair draw but not a seeded one. If you have results, ratings or last season’s table, rank from those and paste the list best first.

To run the draw as a live event, paste the same list into Tournamyx Scores. A seeded bracket there is drawn in the same order, and empty slots become byes. Events of up to 8 players are free, and every event gets a public link that needs no login.

How do I use the tournament seeding generator?

Paste your teams one per line, best first, so line one is seed 1. The Bracket view then shows round one top to bottom with a seed number beside every name, and the Groups view deals the same list across 2 to 8 groups.

How does the seeding generator show byes?

A team with a bye appears in round one as “Bye, moves straight on”. The line above the cards gives the number of byes and which seeds they belong to, so you can read the draw without counting slots.

What does “if the better seed always wins” show?

It lists the seed numbers that meet in each round if the better seed wins every game. It is a check on the shape of the draw, not a prediction of the results.

How does the Groups setting balance the teams?

It deals the seeds across the groups and back again, then shows each group’s seed total. Totals that are close together mean balanced groups. Choose 2 to 8 groups, up to half the size of your field.

What if I have not ranked my teams yet?

Press Random seeds to shuffle the list. That gives a fair random draw, not a seeded one. For a real seeding, rank by results or ratings first and paste the list best first.

How many teams can the seeding generator handle?

Up to 64 teams, from a minimum of 3. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded or stored.

Is the tournament seeding generator free?

Yes, with no account and no email. Nothing is saved, so close the tab and the draw is gone. Copy it out first.
