Single elimination is the fastest path to a champion but sends half the field home after one game. A round robin guarantees everyone a full slate at the cost of many more matches. A group stage feeding a knockout — the World Cup shape — is the usual sweet spot for one-day events: guaranteed group games, then a climactic bracket.

A proper bracket uses standard seeding: seed 1 plays the lowest seed first, and the top two seeds can only ever meet in the final. When your team count isn’t a power of two, byes fill the gap — and they should land against the top seeds, which is both the convention and the fairest reward for ranking.
