In brief
How do you make a badminton tournament bracket?
The Tournamyx badminton bracket generator seeds a field of players, places byes on the top seeds and draws the whole single elimination bracket. A field of 16 runs 15 matches in 5 slots of 30 minutes on 4 courts, about 2.5 hours.
Every generator on Tournamyx is free and needs no account. Running the same event live, with scores, standings and a public link, happens at scores.tournamyx.com, free for up to 8 players.

Field guide
How long a badminton bracket takes
In badminton, a best-of-three rally-scoring match with knock-up and changeover takes about 30 minutes, so this page uses 30-minute slots. A knockout is the quickest way to a winner: every match removes one entry, so a field of any size needs one match fewer than its entries. Rounds still run one after another, and the early rounds are the wide ones, so the first round decides how many courts are needed.
On 4 courts the figures are below. The largest field that fits in a four-hour block is 28 players, and the largest field that fits in an eight-hour day is 60 players.
Badminton knockout on 4 courts, 30-minute slots
| Field | Matches | Rounds | Byes | Slots | Run time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 players | 7 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 1.5 h |
| 16 players | 15 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 2.5 h |
| 24 players | 23 | 5 | 8 | 7 | 3.5 h |
| 32 players | 31 | 5 | 0 | 9 | 4.5 h |
Byes in a 24-player badminton bracket
A bracket has to be a power of two wide, so 24 players play in a 32-slot draw with 8 byes. Byes go to the top seeds, who start in round two. That is fair to the strongest entries and slightly unkind to everyone else, who play one more match to reach the same round. See how byes work, or the 24 team bracket for the full draw.
When a badminton knockout is the wrong format
A single elimination bracket guarantees each entry one match, and half the field plays only that. If players have travelled or paid to enter, a badminton round robin guarantees every player a full set of games, at the price of more time. Groups feeding a knockout sit in between. For the full product see badminton tournament software.

How many matches are in a 16-player badminton bracket?
15 matches over 4 rounds, because every match removes one entry and only the champion is left. On 4 courts at 30 minutes a slot that is 5 slots, about 2.5 hours.
How many players fit a badminton bracket in one day?
On 4 courts at 30-minute slots, the largest field that fits in eight hours is 60 players, and the largest field that fits in four hours is 28 players.
Can I run a badminton bracket live with scores?
Yes. Tournamyx Scores runs a knockout live with a public link and brackets that update as scores come in. The free plan covers 8 participants, so a larger field needs Plus (64 participants) or a one-off event unlock.
