6 team bracket generator with the two byes placed
Six teams need an eight-slot draw, so two teams skip the first round. That is the awkward part, and it is why most six-team events are better as a round robin — the full five-round schedule is below the generator.

How it works
Build a 6 team bracket in three steps.
- 01~1 min
Enter your six teams
Paste the list in seed order if you have rankings — with six teams the order decides which two get the byes, so it is not a cosmetic choice.
- 02~5 sec
Two byes place themselves
Six teams sit in an eight-slot bracket, so two slots stay empty. They go to seeds 1 and 2, who enter at the semi-finals while the other four play round one.

Field guide
Six teams, five matches, and two teams that start late
A knockout bracket has to be a power of two, so six teams play in an eight-slot draw with two byes. Seeds 1 and 2 skip round one and enter at the semi-finals; the other four play a single first-round match each. Total: five matches over three rounds, because five teams must be eliminated to leave one.
It works, and it is quick — five slots on one court, about two hours five minutes, or three slots on two courts, an hour and fifteen. But look at what the six teams actually experience. Two of them arrive, wait through a round they are not in, then play. Two of them play once and go home. Only two play more than one competitive match. For a field this small that is a poor return on everyone’s afternoon.
The byes themselves are the fairest part: they go to the top seeds, which is the convention and the reward for ranking. The generator above places them there automatically. If you have no rankings, shuffle first so the byes land at random rather than on whoever you typed first.

The 6 team round robin schedule, in full
Six teams is the classic round robin size: fifteen matches over five rounds, three matches per round, no byes and nobody sitting out. Every team plays every other team exactly once and finishes having played five games — five times what the knockout guarantees, for ten more matches.
The schedule below is the circle method: fix team 1 in place and rotate everyone else around it. It is the same rotation the round robin generator runs, and it guarantees no team plays twice in the same round, which is the part that hand-written schedules get wrong.
On three courts each round is a single slot, so the whole thing is five slots — two hours five minutes. On two courts it is ten slots, about four hours ten. That court count is the real decision: a six-team round robin on two courts is an afternoon, and on three it is a long morning.
Full 6 team round robin schedule — circle method
| Round | Match 1 | Match 2 | Match 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 v 6 | 2 v 5 | 3 v 4 |
| 2 | 1 v 5 | 6 v 4 | 2 v 3 |
| 3 | 1 v 4 | 5 v 3 | 6 v 2 |
| 4 | 1 v 3 | 4 v 2 | 5 v 6 |
| 5 | 1 v 2 | 3 v 6 | 4 v 5 |
Two groups of three, when the round robin will not fit
If fifteen matches is too many for your booking and five feels too thin, split the six into two groups of three. Each group is three matches, so six group matches in total, then the group winners and runners-up cross into semi-finals and a final: nine matches, four rounds, two guaranteed games each.
It is the shape most six-team one-day events should run. Everyone gets a second match regardless of how the first goes, the knockout still delivers a real final, and on two courts it lands around three hours. Build it with the group stage + knockout generator.
The one warning: a group of three has a structural quirk — each team sits out one of the three rounds, and the team playing last knows exactly what result it needs. Publish the tiebreak order before you start. The best tournament format for 6 teams works through all of this with timings.

How many byes does a 6 team bracket need?
Two. Six teams sit in an eight-slot bracket, leaving two empty slots, which go to seeds 1 and 2. Those teams enter at the semi-finals while the other four play the first round.
How many matches are in a 6 team bracket?
Five, over three rounds: two first-round matches, two semi-finals and a final. Five of the six teams have to be eliminated, and each match eliminates exactly one.
How many matches is a 6 team round robin?
Fifteen, over five rounds of three matches each. The formula is n × (n − 1) ÷ 2, so 6 × 5 ÷ 2 = 15. Every team plays five games and no team ever sits out a round.
How long does a 6 team round robin take?
About two hours five minutes on three courts with 25-minute slots, since each round of three matches fits one slot. On two courts it is ten slots, roughly four hours ten minutes.
Is a knockout or a round robin better for 6 teams?
A round robin, unless your booking is short. It costs fifteen matches against the knockout’s five, but every team plays five games instead of one and no team is eliminated by a single result. Two groups of three feeding semi-finals is the nine-match compromise.
Is the 6 team bracket generator free?
The generator on this page is free and unlimited. Running a six-team event live on Tournamyx Scores needs a paid plan or a one-off single-event unlock, since the free tier covers up to 8 players.
