For teachers and PE departments running sports days and inter-school meets

School sports day software that runs the day, not the paperwork.

Tournamyx turns class lists into schedules, scores every event live — sprints, relays, field events — and gives teachers, students, and parents one link for results and the house tally.

Free for up to 8 players · $9 per event beyond that · Nothing to install

If any of these sound familiar

  • Results on paper slips relayed to the announcer’s desk
  • Parents asking which event their kid is in, and when
  • One teacher holding the master spreadsheet — while also judging long jump
  • The final house tally argued about at four o’clock

We built Tournamyx for schools & sports days in exactly this situation.

Field guide — schools & sports days

Heats, finals, and field events running at once

A sports day is several different competitions sharing a field. Track events run as heats into finals and are ranked by time. Field events are attempt-based — three jumps or three throws, ranked by the best one. Relays are team events scored by house. They all finish at different times, all feed the same house tally, and all have to be recorded by whichever teacher happens to be standing there.

The usual system is a paper slip per event, carried to a desk where one person types everything into a master spreadsheet. That person is also the bottleneck, and usually also judging something. When the day overruns, the tally is the thing that slips.

Running each event type in its proper scoring model — timed, attempt-based, or head-to-head — means the house tally is a live consequence of results rather than an end-of-day reconciliation job.

The announcer and the judges should read one screen

The classic sports day failure is a mismatch between what the announcer says and what the results desk holds, because a slip went missing between the long jump pit and the table. Nobody notices until the closing ceremony, when a house discovers its total is wrong in front of six hundred people.

Letting each teacher enter their own event’s results removes the relay of paper entirely. Roles can be scoped per event, so the teacher running the sprints records sprint times without being able to change anything else, and the PE lead keeps oversight of the whole day without having to be the single point of entry.

It also means the tally is correct continuously rather than at 4pm, which is when it needs to be right and is the worst possible time to find out it is not.

Parents want a link, not a printout

Parents ask two questions all day: which event is my child in, and when. Both are answerable in advance with a schedule they can open on a phone, and neither should require finding a teacher. The same link carries the live house standings, which is the part the students refresh.

For inter-school meets the link matters more, because the visiting schools have no one at your results desk. One URL, no login, no app to install — sent once in the letter home and again on the morning. If you are planning the day end to end, the tournament organizing guide covers entry, scheduling and running order in sequence.

Questions

Schools & sports days tournaments — the questions that come up first

  1. How do you run heats, finals and field events at the same time?

Tournamyx scores attempt-based events natively alongside head-to-head ones, so a long jump ranked on best attempt, a 100m ranked on time and a tug of war ranked on wins all feed the same live tally. Each runs as its own tournament under one event with a single public link.

  2. Can parents follow a school sports day without an app?

Yes. Every Tournamyx event has one public link that opens in any browser and shows live scores, standings and schedules with no account, no login and no download. Only the staff entering results need accounts, so the link can go straight into a parents' newsletter.

  3. Can several teachers record results at the same time?

Yes. Tournamyx supports owner, admin and member roles plus per-tournament scoring permissions, so staff at different events can enter results simultaneously into the same live tally. Permissions are granted per tournament rather than per location.

  4. Is Tournamyx free for a school sports day?

Tournamyx is free for competitions of up to 8 participants per tournament with unlimited tournaments, so a sports day split into many small events can run at no cost. A one-off $9 unlocks a single event for 30 days at up to 64 participants if any one competition is larger.

The comparison

Match day, two ways.

Every tournament hits the same five moments. The difference is whether you handle them from a spreadsheet or from one link.

What it handles

What does tournament management software need to do on match day?

It has to hold up at the moment something goes wrong. Five places where most tournaments fall apart — none of them will be yours.

01/Scheduling

From team list to full schedule in ten seconds.

Enter your teams, groups, and courts. Tournamyx lays the whole schedule out across them, round by round — the job that used to eat your Saturday night.

Formats
Round-robin, single & double elim, Swiss, attempts
Scale
8 teams or 406 — same workflow
Courts
No field ever sits empty
Generated round-robin schedule with matches assigned across eight fields

02/Preview

Catch the mistake before anyone sees it.

Walk through every fixture, field assignment, and standing before you publish. Spot the imbalance or the awkward matchup while nobody’s watching.

03/Changes

A team drops out. Nobody notices.

Thirty minutes before kickoff, someone always cancels. Drag the team out, drop a replacement in — the bracket and the public link adjust on their own.

04/Scoring

Type the score. Everything else updates.

The scorer picks the match, types the result, hits save. Standings recalculate, the bracket advances, and the public link shows it — before the teams have left the court.

05/Collaboration

Split the courts, not the spreadsheet.

Invite co-scorekeepers with the right permissions and divide the venue between you. Every score lands in the same live standings — no “who has the latest sheet?”

Case study — IIUMRC, Jul 2025

The 406-team international championship that proved the point.

In July 2025, Tournamyx ran the IIUM Robotic Competition — the annual international robotics tournament at IIUM Gombak, where school teams from Malaysia and abroad battle in sumo, robot soccer, and time-rush events. 406 teams across three categories, 755 matches scheduled and scored live, every standing on one public link. If it can run an international robotics championship, it can run your Sunday futsal night.
