Attempt-based scoring for events with no opponent.
Time trials, robot runs and judged routines are scored per attempt. Set how many attempts each entrant gets and what decides the ranking.

How attempt scoring works
Nobody plays anybody. Each entrant gets a set number of attempts, and each attempt records one or more measures. The ranking comes from those measures, in the order you choose.
You decide how many attempts each entrant gets. Each measure is either a number or a time. For each one you say whether higher is better, like points, or lower is better, like a time. Then you put the measures in order. Points can decide first, and the fastest time can break a tie.
Starting points
Five presets give you a working setup in one click. You can change any of them afterwards.
Attempt presets
| Preset | Measures | Ranked by |
|---|---|---|
| Points and time | Points, time | Most points, then fastest time |
| Time based | Time | Fastest time |
| Points based | Points | Most points |
| Soccer | Score | Highest score |
| Sumo | Score, weight | Highest score, then lowest weight |
Best attempt or total
The scoreboard can rank on the best single attempt or on the total across all attempts. A line follower race is a best-attempt event. A round-based event where every run scores points is a total.
For head-to-head matches see live scoring, and for how runs are put onto the grid of courts and slots see tournament scheduling.
What it does not do
- Attempts are entered by a person. Tournamyx does not read times from sensors or timing gates.
- Ties are broken by the order of measures you set. If every measure is level, the entrants share the rank.
- Each entrant is scored on its own. There is no head-to-head match between entrants.
Questions
Can I run a time trial where the fastest run wins?
Yes. Use the time preset in Tournamyx, set the number of attempts, and the scoreboard ranks each entrant by the fastest time. A lower time is better.
How do I score a robotics competition with several runs?
Set how many attempts each team gets, add what the judges record, like points and time, and put them in order. Tournamyx then ranks every team across its attempts.
What happens when two entrants have the same score?
The next measure in your order decides. In Tournamyx a tie on points can be broken by time. If every measure is level, the entrants share the rank.
