Four ways to draw a knockout bracket
Every knockout in Tournamyx uses one draw method. You pick it once, see the result in the preview, and can change your mind until you generate.
Knockout draw methods
| Method | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Seeded | Follows your list order | You know who is strongest |
| Random | Shuffles every entrant | Nobody should argue with it |
| Manual | Leaves every place empty | You already know the draw |
| From the previous stage | Fills from the group tables | Groups feed a knockout |
Drag a team to a new seed
On the participants page, switch on ordering and drag a row to a new position. The seed numbers follow the order you leave. A seeded draw reads that list, so the team at the top is seed 1.
Groups work the same way. You can fill them in list order, in snake order, at random, or by hand. Snake order gives seed 1 to group A, seed 2 to group B and so on, then runs back the other way. That spreads the strongest teams across the groups.
When to seed and when to shuffle
Seed when you know how strong the teams are and want the best sides to meet late. Shuffle when you don’t know, or when the teams are about equal, like a first-year school event. Shuffle too if a hand-picked order would start an argument. A random draw done in front of the teams is easier to defend than one you made at your desk.
When a knockout follows a group stage, the seeding mode decides where the qualifiers go: snake, group order or cross-group. You can check the result first in the tournament preview. The rest of the setup is covered under tournament scheduling.
What it does not do
- Seeds are the order you set. Tournamyx does not rank teams from past results.
- Dragging is built for a mouse or trackpad. Set the order on a laptop, then score from a phone.
- Knockout brackets hold 4 to 64 entrants.
Questions
How do I seed a tournament bracket?
List the teams in Tournamyx with the strongest first, or drag them into that order, then choose Seeded as the draw method. Seed 1 goes at the top of the bracket, and byes are given to the top seeds when the field is not a power of two.
When should I use a random draw instead of seeding?
Use a random draw when team strength is unknown or equal, or when anyone could dispute a hand-picked order. Use seeding when you know the strength and want the best teams to meet late. Tournamyx supports both.
Can I place every team in the bracket by hand?
Yes. Choose Manual as the draw method, or clear a drawn preview, and Tournamyx leaves every place empty for you to fill. This suits events where the draw was made in public beforehand.
