In brief
What is the March Madness bracket template?
The Tournamyx March Madness bracket template is a 64-slot single elimination bracket laid out the way the NCAA men's tournament is: four regions, seeds 1 to 16 in each, and 63 games across 6 rounds. Every slot has a label such as A1 for Region A's 1 seed, so you replace the labels with your own teams and keep the structure.
Every generator on Tournamyx is free and needs no account. Running the same event live, with scores, standings and a public link, happens at scores.tournamyx.com, free for up to 8 players.

How it works
Fill in the March Madness bracket in three steps.
- 1~3 min
Replace the labels with teams
A1 is Region A’s 1 seed, B16 is Region B’s 16 seed, and so on. Edit each line in place and keep it on the same line, because the line is the slot.
- 2~1 min
Type a score for each game
The team with more points moves into the next round. Use real scores, or 1 and 0 if you only want to pick winners.
- 3done
Follow it to the final
Region winners meet in the semi-finals, with Region A against Region B and Region C against Region D, and the champion appears when the last game is scored.
Field guide
How the March Madness bracket is built
The NCAA men’s tournament has four regions, and each region holds seeds 1 to 16. In round one every region plays the same pairings: 1 against 16, 8 against 9, 5 against 12, 4 against 13, 6 against 11, 3 against 14, 7 against 10 and 2 against 15. The template uses exactly those pairings, so A1 meets A16 and B8 meets B9.
Sixty-four slots means 63 games, because every game removes one team and only the champion is left. Those games fall in six rounds. The table shows how the NCAA names each round and how this template labels it.
The six rounds of the 64-slot bracket
| NCAA name | In this template | Games |
|---|---|---|
| First round | Round of 64 | 32 |
| Second round | Round of 32 | 16 |
| Sweet Sixteen | Round of 16 | 8 |
| Elite Eight | Quarter-Finals | 4 |
| Final Four | Semi-Finals | 2 |
| National championship | Final | 1 |
How the four regions join up
Each region winner is a Final Four team. In this template Region A meets Region B in one semi-final and Region C meets Region D in the other. The NCAA chooses which regions are paired each year, and since 2004 it has done so that if all four 1 seeds reach the Final Four, the best 1 seed plays the fourth best and the second plays the third. To match a real year, put its regions in the A, B, C, D order that gives those semi-finals.
The template stops at the 64-slot bracket. The games that fill the last few slots happen before round one, and the NCAA has voted to enlarge that opening round from 2027, so those slots are best filled once the field is announced.
Running a 64-team bracket of your own
The same shape works for any 64-entrant knockout. Rounds are played one after another, so the time depends on how many courts or tables you have in the first rounds, not on dividing games by courts. At 30-minute slots, a 64-team knockout takes the following time.
64-team single elimination, 30-minute slots
| Courts | Slots | Run time |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 17 | 8.5 h |
| 8 | 10 | 5 h |
| 16 | 7 | 3.5 h |

Does the March Madness template include the First Four?
No. The Tournamyx March Madness template covers the 64-slot main bracket of 63 games. The opening round that fills the last slots is played before round one, so enter its winners into the template once they are known.
Which regions play each other in the Final Four?
In the Tournamyx template Region A plays Region B and Region C plays Region D. The NCAA decides the real pairing each year, so reorder your regions to match it before you copy a real year.
Can I run this bracket live for friends?
The template on this page is free and does not save anything. Tournamyx Scores runs a knockout of up to 64 entrants live with one shared link, but the free plan covers 8 players, so a 64-entrant bracket needs Plus (64 players) or a one-off unlock of 64 players for 30 days.
